Carolynn's Corner - May 5, 2010

We had a few new, fun activities at circle time today that I thought you might like to hear about.
Since we have been playing grocery store, and learning how different foods benefit our bodies, I thought the children might enjoy seeing the parts of their bodies (e.g. muscles, bones, organs, veins, etc.) It was a stretch on my part - but just maybe they would gain an understanding. They did! All the children were fascinated. I'm not sure if the little ones absorbed anything (I am always open to the possibility). You might want to see the book I have; it is excellent. At lunch, one of the children showed me the vein in his arm and asked if that was blood! I was really amazed.
The other activity was listening to a CD of everyday sounds, and finding the sound on picture boards. Again I was amazed. The children were identifying sounds immediately - and some of them were not that easy. I could identify them too - but then, I had the cards in correct numerical order!
I don't know if you are interested in what we have for meals each day. If you are, let me know. Today we had cheese, greenbeans and cheerios for snack; chicken, cheese ravioli, broccoli, carrots, and milk for lunch. Here's a tip: when we have sunflower butter (instead of peanut butter), I put it in pita pockets. It cuts way down on sticky fingers since it can only ooze out one side.
