It is April, but you still can't convince me that Spring is here. And that reminds me - our back yard is fairly cold. We don't get sun until the afternoon, so please remember to dress your child warmly/layers. We are outside about an hour. If they get warm (i.e.heated from running, etc.) , we can always take clothing off.
We now have a beautiful play kitchen set - perfect for our pretend summer picnics and tea parties.
I try to be honest and "for real" with the children - most of the time. But I just couldn't resist purchasing a few dozen delicious baby carrots, complete with greens, and planting them in our garden. I told the children that I think the carrots are ready. They love finding things in the garden and immediately eating them. See photos below. Pretty soon we will be having actual veggies growing - green beans, potatoes, chard, tomatoes, kale and arugula. The children will be most interested in cherry tomatoes and green beans. I haven't yet decided what we will plant in the back yard (besides sorrel, potatoes, green beans, strawberries and blueberries.
One thing we did plant was wildflowers. Each child has their own pot, with their name on it. Once/if they prosper, we will transfer them into the ground.
