Carolynn's Corner - June 7, 2010

First I'd like to welcome our new students (and their families) - Andrew Bucy, Olivia Chase, Makena and Dante Sarno. On the other hand, I was sorry to say goodbye to Ingrid and Mabry (and their family), who moved to Corte Madera today.
We have been busy in the garden. The sunflowers that the children planted in the front garden (seeds from Mrs. Peterson at the Bee Farm) are now about 4" tall. These plants are the giant sunflowers. If they survive, they will be stunning! At circle we read books about sunflowers (Sammy plants a Sunflower, and Ten Seeds).
We also read Two Old Potatoes. In the back yard the children are digging up potatoes. As you will see in the photo, there is an actual potato plant. But I do stretch the truth a bit - at night I bury potatoes so the children can have the instant gratification of digging up potatoes every day. At night I just bury the same potatoes that they dig up in the morning. Works for me! Works for them also.
The photo in the sandbox is my birthday cake in a dumptruck. I was totally amazed at how thoughtful and creative the children are. They did this with absolutely no prompting. BTW - when I celebrated my birthday with my adult friends, I also celebrated my engagement to Dave Meyer. We plan to be married on September 19.

There is no doubt about it, the children love to dance. If it didn't take so long to edit photos, I would add more. There are plenty of wonderful photos. You are welcome to view my camera.
