Summer Break Party Pics

This may be old news for most of you, but for those of you who were not able to attend our summer break party, I have posted a few photos. If you want to see more photos, you can find them in the photo album in the basket behind the blue sofa.   We were delighted by the music brought to us by Leah and Patrick Numair (Deiva’s parents).  We had good food; the children played; and parents got to see what we do at circle time.  I had a wonderful time, and I think we all did.

Now we are back to school – I have retired all the garden materials, and we will be learning about marine life.  Pretty soon the children will be able to distinguish between whales, dolphins and sharks; and between crabs and lobsters.   We will be learning the names of many common shells.  If you have an opportunity to go to the beach or to the aquarium, it should be an even more meaningful trip.  Just swimming in the pool can be a great time to relate to some of common fish – salmon, trout, etc.

We have some great stories/work that the children love, e.g. Sammy the Sea Cow, Baby Beluga, Swimmy, Is This a Home for Hermit Crab, There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Trout.

Here are a few songs we are singing now:

Fishing Song

One, two, three, four, five

Once I caught a fish alive.

Six, seven, eight, nine, ten

Then I threw him back again.

Why did you let him go?

Because he bit my finger so.

Which finger did he bite?

This little finger on the right.

Baby Beluga

Baby beluga in the deep blue sea

Swim so wild and you swim so free

Heaven above and the sea below

And a little white whale on the go.

Baby beluga, oh baby beluga

Is the water warm?  Is your mommy home with you so happy?

Way down yonder where the dolphins play

Where you swim and splash all day.

Waves roll in and the waves roll out

See the water squirting out of your spout.

Baby beluga, oh baby beluga

Sing your little song, sing for all your friends

We like to hear you.

When it’s dark and you’re home and fed

Curled up snug in your water bed

Moon is shining and the stars are bright

Goodnight little whale, goodnight.

Baby beluga, oh baby beluga

With tomorrow’s sun another day’s begun

You’ll soon be waking.

Baby beluga in the deep blue sea

Swim so wild and you swim so free

Heaven above and the sea below

And a little white whale on the go.

You’re just a little white whale on the go.

SAMMY THE SEAL
Sammy the seal is a real fun pup.
He dives down deep and then he pops up.
Sammy the seal goes out to play.
He swims with the fish and the otters in the bay.
He climbs up the rocks to rest in the sun
And then he goes back to have more fun.
